Great that you are signing up for De Filmbuddies! At De Filmbuddies, 4 young refugees are paired with 4 Dutch peers and together they work on a 4-part documentary series. In the series, the youngsters take a look into each other’s lives and search for each other’s story. During the project, you will be guided by 2 professional filmmakers from Nijmegen; Sonja Willems and Daan Jongbloed.

Netflix-tip: film over zwarte vrouwenbataljon tijdens WOII
In december is het oorlogsdrama The Six Triple Eight te zien op Netflix, over een zwart vrouwenbataljon dat tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog ervoor zorgde dat de mannen aan het front post kregen van hun families thuis.
Six Triple Eight is de bijnaam van het 6888ste Central Postal Directory Battalion. Dit bataljon bestond voornamelijk uit zwarte vrouwen, en zij waren de enige zwarte vrouwen die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog naar het buitenland werd gestuurd.
In de oorlog was er een groot tekort aan militairen die de post voor Amerikaanse soldaten in het buitenland konden verzorgen. In 1944 drong de Amerikaanse burgerrechtenactiviste Mary McLeod Bethune er bij First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt op aan zwarte vrouwen een nuttige rol te gunnen voor de oorlog in het buitenland. Haar lobby had succes. 855 vrouwen, onder leiding van majoor Charity Adams, kregen een basistraining en vertrokken daarna naar het Verenigd Koninkrijk.

Otto Frank and the film 'The Diary of Anne Frank'
In the contract with Contact Publishers (1946) on the publication of the diary, Otto Frank had explicitly included that he retained the translation and film rights to the diary.[1]
American writer/journalist Meyer Levin was convinced of the potential for a stage and/or film adaptation of the diary after reading the diary in its French translation (September 1950).[2] Otto Frank, on the other hand, was not so sure of this:
' As far as the film is concerned I am a layman and cannot imagine a good solution to bring out the thoughts and ideas. I am afraid that the exciting and thrilling actions would prevail, to please the public. But if you see it in another way just go on and I shall not interfere. It even would be possible to film the original place and I would try my best to overcome my inner feelings. '[3]
With Otto Frank's permission, Meyer Levin tried unsuccessfully to establish contacts with film producers.[4] Only after the diary's success in the United States did theatre and film producers show interest. For instance, according to Otto Frank, the American publisher Doubleday received daily requests for film, radio and television adaptations.[5] Otto Frank saw more in a film ad
